HAPPENING NOW [VERY IMPORTANT]: Venezuela’s soldiers are killing their people. The Government is sending their armed gangs to kill them and they have censored all the media in their country, even blocking photos posted on social media sites. They shut down all the cable channels that broadcast news, so they can’t know what’s going on. The people have no source of protection at all. Students are protesting to save their country and their lives at this very moment. All they have are their social networks to get the word out so, PLEASE RE-BLOG THIS AND SPREAD THE WORD. VENEZUELA IS ON THE BRINK OF A CIVIL WAR AND CLOSE TO BECOMING A FULL COMMUNIST DICTATORSHIP. THEIR PEOPLE NEED YOUR HELP. —— Please, this is very important to me, one of my closest friends went to visit family in Venezuela over winter break and they won’t let him come back to Florida. We’re graduating in a few months and it hurts me to know that his baseball career and all of his hard work and dedication to his grades here in the U.S. was all for nothing. Please.

one of my friends is in the middle of this shit right now and it’s terrifying, she said their twitters are getting blocked so they can’t share info, their murder rate is the second highest in the world and none of the murderers go to jail because they’re government supporters, they can’t find basic household items or food in their supermarkets, their economy has plummeted, inflation increased over 50% in the two months since 2014 started, airlines have basically left the country because the govt owes them so much money, they have no access to cars or car parts, they can’t cross any borders because their govt controls them and no one is helping them.

it is fucking pissing me off that no one is helping them when they’re asking for it and need it so much. And I am so frustrated that theres not more I can do than share things like this to spread the word, that I just have to hope enough people see it that something gets done.

I am honored to call myself a member of the Jewish people. I am proud of my traditions, my culture, and the historical hardships Jews have endured. However, there is growing concern in the Middle East that most American Jews are unaware and refuse to accept. The inability to be self-critical has blinded our generation to the greatest chance for peace between the Israelis and Palestinians.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has just successfully formed a new government in the Knesset. His new coalition has given Mr. Netanyahu unrestrained power rarely seen in Israeli politics. It would be naïve to assume his actions would result in achieving a two-state solution in the Middle East. His consolidated power has further entrenched his hard-line position; why strike a deal when one does not have political pressure to do so?
Such is the case with Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Mr. Netanyahu’s Parliament rejected a bill to legalize the Settlements, built on land seized during the 1967 War. Countering this action, Mr. Netanyahu authorized the construction of 300 new homes in the West Bank. Benjamin Netanyahu claims to be in observance of the law. BBC News states that his actions are to, “…preserve the law and preserve the settlements.” The premise that the Prime Minister is acting to preserve the law in what is claimed to be historically Jewish land is unfounded. Seized lands of the 1967 have been in political limbo since war’s end.
The purpose of the land grab in 1967 was to exchange land for peace with Israel’s neighbors. In essence, the Israelis of past conducted a temporary geographic seizure to be exchanged for political and social recognition. However, Mr. Netanyahu’s posturing now in 2012 is not temporary. His actions are short sighted, favoring political aspirations, rather than recognition.
Settlement land is not Israeli territory. Therefore, rule of law by decree of Benjamin Netanyahu need not apply. The West Bank has been designated land for a future Palestinian State by the United Nation, the United States, the Palestinian Authority and Israeli leaders of old.
Israel faces a huge demographic challenge by following this path. The set number of Palestinians residing in the occupied territories is set to double, becoming on par or exceeding the population of Israel by 2050. My generation must wake up. Pressure must be applied for a two-state solution sooner rather than later. The current mindset will harm the Jewish peoples’ future security. To better ourselves Jews must critically reexamine our history. It is time for American Jews and the Jews of Israel to come of age and make the mature and difficult decisions for the long term. The Palestinians are not proud enough to make a deal for peace, and the Israelis have become too proud to concede to peace. It is time to turn a new leaf in this enduring conflict. Mr. Netanyahu, it is time to make a true effort for a lasting peace instead of seeking a fleeting dream of 300 homes.
